The Random Excuse Generator – firing on all three cylinders.

Dr Chris Block and I recently completed a trial run of the reconstructed Random Excuse Generator – the little known masterwork of mechanical genius Henry Hoke.
It was a great occasion: achieving a sort of closure to many years of hard work by Dr Block (who is the Technical Director here at the Insitute) and I.
A film crew was present to record the final triumphant moments and it is viewable on Youtube at:

We are endeavouring to present the REG at a number of public events in the upcoming year.

Hello Mark. What a great laugh i had looking at The R E G video on youtube. And i love your publications. I think i have most actually, and not only are they fun but very informative. They`ve provided me with countless hours of reading and perusing. And i find that in some cases once i go back to re-reading some of them i pick up on something i previously missed.I look forward to others as you release.I`m also collating some pics of my shed and things i`ve built, which i hope to submit soon. Many thanks to you and the countless blokes who fill your books with their passion.Regards Gordon (Sydney).

IBYS – REG at the SA Maritime Gallery
The skeptic in me questioned Mark Thompson’s appearance on my favourite Artworks show on Radio National.
I visited the SA Maritime Museum to see “The Lost Tools” exhibition and walked into a live demonstration of REG (the random excuse generator).
Not only did REG produce results with all the bells and whistles REG is also a gr8 work of ART.
Well done those men.
Proof of my visit can be seen on Flickr – just search for dees-image or random excuse generator or henry hoke.
